Navigating Business with Focus, Clarity and Purpose

Being in business is tough, and being in business on your own, well, that's where the juggle can get overwhelming. It's really hard work being in business, and when you're the sole person in your business, knowing where to focus your attention when EVERYTHING seems important, well, that's a mind game every single day.

I have worked for myself for 18 years, experiencing times with a team and times without. So, I've felt the experience of both, and they both have their own challenges. I hear way too often that the struggle of working for yourself or even with a small team is keeping focused and motivated, requiring more work than the tasks themselves.

In episode 60 of Distracted, the podcast, I speak with Kell Quarrell, Business Strategist and Founder of Bold Aligned Business. Kell Quarrell website.
Through Kell’s membership, she helps hundreds of business owners stay aligned with their business so their actions reflect what is important to them and to building a successful business.

In the episode, we talked about:

  1. Syncing your business goals with your personal values, priorities, and the stage of life you're in (this was an ah-ha moment for me).
  2. Practical ways to conquer business challenges, especially when you're flying solo. From prioritizing tasks to working with time, and using systems of support.
  3. How periodic reflection helps you stay on course and move you closer to your success.

From our conversation, I realized that it is really easy to lose sight of what truly matters when we are trying to do it all. I fall into this trap at times. The endless to-do lists, the overwhelming decisions, the constant juggling act of managing it all. But amidst the chaos, alignment is key. Alignment is not just a buzzword or woo-woo concept; it's a compass that points you towards your true north. It is what made you start in business in the first place. It is the feeling that all is good despite working in the grind. Alignment is about aligning your business goals with your deepest values, passions, and priorities. I also loved how Kell talked about the seasons of life and how they relate to our business and the things that are important to us during those seasons. I have never thought of business as moving in seasons and I loved the concept.

Embracing Your Seasons of Life

Kell explained that life is ever-changing, and so are you. As we journey through different seasons—whether it's the exhilarating season of new beginnings or the serene season of introspection or the creation of a new life role such as being a Mum or Dad—your business evolves alongside you. That's the beauty of alignment; it allows you to embrace each season fully, adapting your business to suit your ever-changing needs. Looking back, I can see how different seasons in my role as a parent directly impacted the focus I was able to give my business at that time.

Cultivating Awareness and Overcoming Distractions

In a world filled with distractions, finding clarity can feel like searching for a needle in a haystack. When we are out of alignment, we not only can’t get clear, but we also feel uneasy with looking in the first place. However, when we do the work to get back into alignment, such as tuning into your inner voice, reflecting on your priorities, and setting boundaries, you can overcome distractions and stay focused on what truly matters. There have been many moments during my business journey that I have felt out of alignment. I have questioned why I am doing it, I have gone off track and tried something new. I have even threatened to throw it all in. But when I did work on re-aligning myself to my business, then the clarity came quicker than I could have imagined. The next step laid right in front of me, and I just followed it by staying focused, not getting distracted, and trusting that I was on the right path. If you are wanting support to help you with your next best step, then book in a Zoom Chat with me and see how we can help make your path that little bit clearer.
