When a child is a wiggler, constantly fidgets or is easily distracted, it can be really hard to get them to start an activity let alone focus long enough to get the activity finished. It can be really frustrating and time consuming trying to get them to focus whether it is during class instruction time or during independent work. Trying to get them on task with traditional ways can take a lot of time and often takes your attention away from the other students in your class. 

"How can I get this child to focus?" is the most common question I am asked by teachers.

So I decided that I am going to host a masterclass to run you through really simple classroom strategies that can help you create an environment that helps all kids, no matter their needs to not only listen to you but to work independently no matter their age. 

In the masterclass I will take you through;

  • Reasons why students kind it hard to focus.
  • What factors act as barriers to allowing a child to focus on what is important.
  • What you can do to help create an environment to help all kids focus no matter their needs, without taking your attention away from the whole class.

The masterclass is live so you will have an opportunity to chat with me and ask questions.

Meet your facilitator, Angela

For the last 20 years I have been working in classrooms alongside teachers providing school based Occupational Therapy services. I am a health professional who has always worked in schools so my whole career I have been bridging the gap between the health and educational needs of students.

My purpose is to help kids have the best start in life and help teachers focus on doing the work they love.

My work developing and implementing school based programs to streamline services between the health and education sectors have been used in Australia and Canada. These practices challenge the way children with additional and diverse needs are included in mainstream school settings. I love a good challenge!

With a commitment to forging new and innovative paths I was the National Manager of Community Engagement with a Local Area Coordination service for the roll-out of engagement and capacity building programs for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and was CEO of the child safety organization Kidsafe (NT).

My work, no matter the workplace, has always been to help children have the best start in life. Thanks for being here and joining me on this quest.
